Island Park, Idaho’s outdoor playground!

Enjoy the snowiest place in Idaho!

BPL Favorite Things List!

  • Mesa Falls.  It’s a must see! Absolutely beautiful, and you can stand right next to the falls.  There is a $5.00 parking fee.  Very short walk down a board walk trail to the falls.
  • Sawtelle Mountain Trail, in the summer months you can drive a vehicle up to 10,000 feet elevation and see the entire valley. This is very fun to do on UTVs. The view is absolutely amazing on a clear day! Round trip will take you about 2 hours. Drive up Sawtelle rd until you're at the top of the mountain. There are a few switch backs at the top that are fun! Nothing too scary though.  Take a sweatshirt, it’s a little chillier up there.
  • Stoddard Mill Fishing Pond. I would recommend bringing some travel sized fishing poles as this pond it located about 500 yards to the north of BPL and is stocked with 8-10 inch rainbow trout. Worms and bobbers work just fine. A small Adams fly will work to catch them in the evening hours if you want to try your luck at fly fishing. Kids love this place! Kids 12 and under do not need a fishing license.
  • Feed the fish at Big Springs.  Take a loaf of bread with you. This place is special!  Stand here and watch a river flow out of the ground! It’s AMAZING! You will love it!
  • Float Big Springs to Mack’s Inn. Very laid back, no rapids and you float on crystal clear spring water where you can see the fish swimming below you.  This is the best place to see a moose! They hang out in the river eating most of the day.  The full float takes approximately 3 hours.
    • River float trips call 1(208)-558-7272
  • Fish Henry’s Lake. Wold famous for lake fishing and catching some MONSTER rainbows. A fishing boat is recommended.
  • Fly fishing the Upper Coffee Pots on the Henry’s Fork. This is one of the local fishermen secret spots.  So shushhh.  Don’t tell them I told you!
  • Riding UTVs. You can rent UTVs (and other stuff) from High Mountain Adventures 1(208)-558-9572
  • Boating on Island Park Reservoir. We put in at the Buttermilk Camp Grounds.  Water is warmer on that side of the reservoir and the docks have more room there.  No boat launch, or parking fee there.
  • Playmill Theater or YellowstonePlayhouse .  I would recommend this for a family reunion activity as it’s better with lots of people and you will all laugh! It’s funny entertainment. Don’t be expecting a Broadway show.
  • Walks up Stamp Meadow
  • Cave Falls  These ones require a little bit of a drive to get to, but they are beautiful.
  • Campfires at BPL. We have lots of roasting sticks in the front door closet of the cabin.  You’ll want to pick up a few boxes of fire wood from the Elks Creek gas station. It’s 2 miles away at the corner of Yale Kilgore and Highway 20.
  • Hanging Hammocks at BPL. We highly recommend bringing hammocks with you during the summer months.
  • Hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing in Harriman State Park
  • Sledding. There is a sled hill about 500 yards south of the cabin up Lower Mill Creek Rd. I recommend using an inner tube.
  • Snowmobiling.  BPL has direct access to over 900 miles of groomed snowmobiling trails right off the back of the property.
  • Yellowstone IMAX Theater in West Yellowstone.
  • Yellowstone National Park https://www.nps.gov/yell/index.htm
    • Grand Prismatic Spring

    • Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
    • Brink of The Falls

  • Teton National Park https://www.nps.gov/grte/index.htm
    • Schwebachers Landing
    • Jenny Lake
    • Mormon Row
    • Snake River Overlook
  • Day trip to Jackson Hole.
  • Places to Eat
    • Ponds Lodge Pizza! Get the Garlic Cheese Bread!
    • Lodgepole Grill.  They usually have a solid prime rib dinner!
    • Cafe Sabor. Easy Mexican food, I’m a sucker for chips and salsa! They have really good ice cream too!
    • Big Jud’s. 1lb-2lb burgers and shakes! Kids love how big the burgers are.  THEY ARE HUGE! Get it on your way in or out of Island Park as it is located in Ashton, ID.
    • Boondocks. Quick 5 minute walk. Hours of operation are sporadic. Cinnamon rolls are delicious if you can get there early.
